You can start studying for the theory test before you begin
to drive but you can not take the test until you have your provisional licence. I can help you with
training books, videos and CDs. I also use mock test papers to help you prepare for the test.
The Theory Test
The first part of the Theory Test consists of 35 multiple-choice questions based on the Highway Code and driving - the essential skills. By using a touch-screen computer you select an answer, or answers, from the given selection for each question. To pass this part of the test you must answer 30, or more, questions correctly in the 40 minutes given for this part of the test. You also have the option at the start of the test to spend up to 15 minutes practicing to allow yourself to get used to the system.
The second part of the Theory Test is a hazard perception test. After completing the first part of the Theory Test you will be given an optional 3 minutes break before having to start the hazard perception test. You will be shown an introductory video, with sound, which will explain how to complete this part of the test. The test consists of 14 video clips, each lasting for about a minute. There will one, or possibly two, developing hazards in each clip. As soon as you see a hazard developing then you should click the mouse button. The earlier you notice hazards and click the mouse button the higher your resulting score will be. You can score up to 5 marks for each hazard and there are 15 scoreable hazards in the 14 videos. To pass this part of the Theory Test you must score at least 44 marks.
You must pass both parts of the Theory Test to get an overall pass and you will be given your test results after you have completed the entire test.
