The Practical Test
So, you’ve came along way since that first lesson, struggling to hold the clutch at the bite while you have one last glance round the hazard areas. Now it all comes naturally, and you can spot a hazard well before it will cause you any hassle. The theory test was a breeze and now it’s time for the final hurdle…
To pass the practical test you must be a safe driver. To become a safe driver takes concentration, anticipation, responsibility and practice. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to reaching that position so plenty of practice, after proper tuition, is the key to success
At the start of your test you will be given an eyesight check and asked 2 questions from the show me/tell me list of questions. I will supply you with a copy of these questions and advise you how to tackle this aspect of the test.
The driving test lasts for around 40 minutes and covers a wide variety of roads except motorways. During the test you will be required to perform two manoveures involving reverse gear:
- Turn in the road
- Reverse left or right
- Parallel parking
- Bay parking
Your test may also include an Emergency Stop – this manoveure is included in a random selection of tests.
Details can also be found on the DSA website.
